10/21/2011 0 Comments Ghost town, a series of 13 photographs and 6 tintypes. Showing October 1 - 31 st at the Glashaus.![]() A California gold mining town preserved in it’s state of decay, a walk thru Bodie feels like a walk thru the past. Interiors of this once thriving town are left as they were by those that last lived inside the walls, leaving subtle signs of the distress on scene before one must have been forced to flee the violence of a town ripe with gold. You can view these 13 ghost town images and 6 tintype photoboxes thru October 31st in the Glashaus main space. Open studio hours on Saturday from 10-3. “Bodie State Historic Park is a genuine California gold-mining ghost town. Visitors can walk down the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of nearly 10,000 people. The town is named for Waterman S. Body (William Bodey), who had discovered small amounts of gold in hills north of Mono Lake. In 1875, a mine cave-in revealed pay dirt, which led to purchase of the mine by the Standard Company in 1877. People flocked to Bodie and transformed it from a town of a few dozen to a boom town. Designated as a National Historic Site and a State Historic Park in 1962” http://parks.ca.gov 10/19/2011 1 Comment Pieces of you![]() I decided to take a different look at building a portrait. We never can really focus on all elements of the face when we are looking at another person. You see the sharp eyes, but the mouth falls away, or zoom into the freckles on the bridge of one's nose and the canvas of cheekbones and forehead become fuzzy as the eyes can only pin point one spot to examine. In this mosaic face all the elements of Trista are up close and sharp, bending how one can really take in a face. 10/19/2011 0 Comments A tintype from a digital file?!![]() The original image was captured digitally during a photoshoot in my studio. I loved the look of the digital image and wondered how the recreation would translate if I created a tintype from the original. After creating a slide and dialing in the proper exposure into my enlarger, here are the results! While I prefer the in camera capture of traditional tintype capture, I do find there to be enough magic in the recreation to catch my eye. Plus it is neat-o to know that you can take any digital image and recreate a tintype! 10/19/2011 0 Comments A big birthday year! |
